Temporary Authorization
When you apply in person at the Regional Office of Education, you will receive a temporary employment authorization, which you may take to a district and be employed. The Temporary Authorization Letter should arrive within a week of application. It entitles the bearer to substitute teach until the authentic Substitute Teaching Certificate is issued by ISBE (it takes approximately 4 weeks). This certificate is mailed to the Regional Office of Education and, in turn, will be mailed to the applicant.
If you have never been employed in a school district in the Bond, Fayette, and Effingham region, you must authorize and pay for a Criminal History Check.
