When you apply in person, you will receive a temporary employment authorization, which you may take to a district and be employed. The Temporary Authorization Letter should arrive within a week of application. It entitles the bearer to substitute teach until the authentic Substitute Teaching Certificate is issued by ISBE (it takes approximately 4 weeks). This certificate is mailed to the Regional Office of Education and, in turn, will be mailed to the applicant.
If you have never been employed in a school district in the Bond, Fayette, and Effingham region, a Fingerprint Background Check must be initiated by the school district.
A Fingerprint Background Check done in any school district is valid and applicable to all school districts in a specific Educational Service Region.
